Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity joined President Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday, where he reaffirmed his support for her Republican gubernatorial campaign in a video posted on Truth Social.
Why it matters: The White House appearance is the latest sign that Garrity is leaning into Trump's political brand in an effort to mobilize Republican voters as she takes on Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro this November.
Context: Garrity visited the White House with Penn State's wrestling team to celebrate its NCAA Championship, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
What they're saying: "Pennsylvania is very lucky because you have somebody running for governor who's going to do a fantastic job," Trump said in the video as he shook Garrity's hand.
Between the lines: Despite securing Trump's endorsement earlier this year, Garrity has yet to translate that support into competitive fundraising.
A July Quinnipiac poll of registered Pennsylvania voters found Shapiro leading Garrity 53% to 40% — a narrower margin than in February, when the incumbent governor held a 55% to 37% advantage.
The bottom line: Trump's more visible support comes as Shapiro, widely seen as a 2028 presidential contender, throws his support behind the Democrats' push for a trifecta in Harrisburg.
