The swifts move fast in the evening and will soon migrate out of Western Pennsylvania. GIF: Ryan Deto/Axios
👋 Ryan here, reminding you to catch Pittsburgh's chimney swifts before they're gone.
The intrique: From late spring through mid-fall, chimney swifts dominate southwestern Pennsylvania evenings, swarming around buildings like the St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church in Ambridge (shown above).
Swifts should stick around through October, but will fly south after that.
Context: Notice their loud and rapid-fire tweet calls as they zoom in the dusk sky, hunting for bugs.
