Summer Lee slams DOJ for Epstein file delay

Driving the news: House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) Comer said in a statement Monday that the DOJ "needs more time" to hand over everything, according to Axios' Kate Santaliz.

What they're saying: Lee on Tuesday questioned the delay and worried the DOJ would only release partial files and redact information. She demanded the release of the full files.

• "Trump's Department of Justice continues to obstruct the truth against the will of the American people. Releasing the Epstein files in limited batches past the subpoena deadline is further proof this administration is protecting the wealthy and the well-connected. This cover-up is obvious," she said.

The big picture: After a brief lull, pressure is increasing again to release the files.

• Trump and his GOP allies in Congress have faced an uproar from their MAGA base since the DOJ concluded last month that Epstein had no "client list" and died by suicide.

The latest: A federal court denied the Trump administration's request to unseal Jeffrey Epstein grand jury transcripts and exhibits, citing a need to maintain secrecy in this case, including to protect victims.

Zoom out: Texas Democrats said they will hold up redistricting efforts until the Epstein files are released.

What's next: The Justice Department will begin sharing documents Friday, according to Comer.
