Young Musicians Unite receive donation to expand music services

• The donation will help support the organization's music teachers in schools and further expand access to high-quality music education, according to a news release.

• The organization hopes to expand into about 56 additional schools.

Between the lines: Senator Alexis Calatayud presented the check earlier this month.

What they're saying: "This is a huge moment," YMU founder and CEO Sammy Gonzalez Zeira told Axios in an email.

• "What's most exciting is knowing that thousands more kids will have the opportunity to experience music during their school day."

By the numbers: The organization provides more than 60,000 instructional hours annually in 721 classrooms.

• It's reached more than 71,400 students since its founding in 2013.

What's next: The nonprofit hopes to raise $3 million to reach more than 27,600 students by next school year.
