Miami Heat name new public address announcer for Antetokounmpo era

Why it matters: New hire Gale Nelson joins the team during an exciting chapter for the Heat with newly acquired superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

How it works: The PA announcer is responsible for pumping up the players and fans during the game with play-by-play addresses.

• Baiamonte, who was with the Heat for 35 years, was known for his bilingual catch phrase, "Two Minutes ... Dos Minutos!" along with his energetic player-name pronunciations.

What they're saying: Nelson tells the Miami Herald that he will keep the "Dos Minutos" call but add his own catch phrases, too.

• "I want to alleviate any fears because 'Dos minutos' is here to stay because this is Miami," Nelson said.
• "So I'm putting that out there right now because, again, my mama didn't raise any fools. So that stays. That's a part of Heat culture. But now in addition to that, my personality, a little shimmy, a little soul."

Get to know Gale: Nelson currently serves as president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami and the Florida Keys.

• He has more than 30 years of nonprofit leadership experience and has never called an NBA game before.
• "Gale brings a unique style and his very distinctive voice to the PA announcer position," said Michael McCullough, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the Heat.
• "We were intrigued right from the start when we heard Gale, and we knew he could be exactly what we were looking for."

What's next: Nelson will make his debut behind the microphone on Tuesday at the Red, White and Pink Game, the Heat's annual team scrimmage.

• "I look forward to continuing the legacy that Michael Biamonte left at the Heat and creating my own journey with the organization," said Nelson.
• "I am humbled and excited for Heat Nation to see who Gale is and showcase my personality and style that I will bring to the microphone this season."
