Caribbean carnival moves parade to Broward, invites all of South Florida to celebrate

Driving the news: The 42nd installment of the carnival will bring music, masquerade and culinary traditions over two weekends between Oct. 3-11.

Zoom in: Things kick off Oct. 3 at a free family friendly event with the combined Junior Carnival and Pan Jamboree at the Tamarac Sports Complex. Enjoy performances from youth masquerade bands and steel bands.

• Carnival week ramps up Oct. 9 with Red Road Fete and J'ouvert at Tamarac Village Amphitheater. Tickets $50+
• Celebrations shift to Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium Oct. 10 for Official J'ouvert featuring more than 20 paint and powder bands. Early bird tickets $66.
• The festival hits its climax Oct. 11 with the signature Miami Broward Carnival Day Parade & Fete at Central Broward Park. Expect over 16 masquerade bands, a major live concert with international Caribbean artists, a food village and cultural vendors. Early bird tickets $39-$66+

Between the lines: The parade and concert had been previously held at Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds and Hard Rock Stadium, while the other events have historically been in Broward, a spokesperson tells Axios.

• Organizers wanted to find a location that could accommodate the scale of the carnival and ensure the best experience for participants, while serving all of South Florida. Plus, Broward has a "strong Caribbean community," the spokesperson said.
