How Miamians can help Colombia earthquake relief efforts

More than 250 have died from the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit western Colombia on Monday.

In the days since, local organizations and governments have organized relief efforts to deliver aid to the country.

The big picture: There are over 105,000 Colombians living in Miami-Dade County, comprising one of Miami's largest foreign-born communities.

Here's a non-exhaustive list of groups collecting donations and events to attend:

Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), the Doral-based organization, has been collecting donations and supplies to deliver on-the-ground resources.

The organization is seeking volunteers to assist with supply collections. Residents can drop off donations at its headquarters. (This post lists the needed supplies.)

City of Miami Beach: The city's four fire stations are accepting items through Aug. 31 between 8am-6pm daily.

United Way Miami is partnering with the Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald and collecting monetary donations.

FORÇA RÍTMICA and Bandidos Run Club are partnering with Tripping Animals Brewery for a morning of running, strength and music.

SHENiTE: The monthly gathering for ladies, is collecting donations at its monthly event on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Late Night Menu Run Crew: The run club is collecting supplies at its Sunday morning long run.

TUMBAO, a curated perreo party, is hosting an event at 1-800 Lucky to raise funds to support the Colombian community.
