Report: Marlins are "hottest team" in baseball

Don't let the euphoria of hosting a World Cup distract you from the fact that the Miami Marlins are the "hottest team in Major League Baseball" over the past month.

That's according to MLB.com, which notes that the Fightin' Fish have a red-hot record of 24-8 since June 1.

Why it matters: The Marlins have made the playoffs just twice in the past two decades, most recently losing in the opening round (National League Wild Card Series) in 2023.

What's next: The Fish are fighting for a playoff spot with the regular season ending Sept. 27.

The Fish are playing at home through Sunday, with games against the Mariners and Guardians.
