Sommer here! I went to Ginnie Springs for the first time this weekend.
Why it matters: It's the perfect little summer getaway.
The five-ish-hour drive is absolutely worth it, whether you make Ginnie your sole destination or visit a few surrounding state parks, too. (We did the latter.)
Even Margie enjoyed a few springs! Here she is at Ichetucknee Springs State Park. Photo: Sommer Brugal/Axios
Pro tip: Arrive early.
We got to Ginnie Springs around 9am and it was already pretty packed.
But by the time we left around 12:30pm, it was chaos, especially around the launch areas for the tubes and paddle boards.
What's next: Axios Tampa Bay reporter Kathryn Varn embarked on a weeklong trek through the Panhandle and Big Bend to visit a handful of springs. I may just have to follow her lead.
