Miami Mango Festival returns for two days at Fairchild Tropical Garden

Why it matters: The event is a ritual that highlights a cornerstone of Miami's culture, one built on shared resources, community and tradition.

You know what they say: You're not a true Miamian if you buy your mangoes at the store.

The big picture: The festival, which launched in 1992, is held at Fairchild Tropical Garden and features more than 400 mango varieties to sample, making it one of the world's largest sampling of the fruit.

During the two-day festival, guests can hear from scientists and growers behind the mango varieties, taste samples curated from local chefs and purchase trees for their backyards — all while participating in family-friendly activities.

The intrigue: This year's festival features new pass tiers for event goers: Fresco Pass ($62) and Caliente All Access (21+, $150).

Both include access to The Mango Lounge and FEI Tasting Experience, a four-station event highlighting mangoes in different culinary forms.

Meanwhile, events like The Mango Spectrum ($45), a guided tasting featuring premium spirits pairings, are also new.

If you go: The festival is on Saturday and Sunday (10am-5pm).

General admission: $15-$28.
