Survey: Most South Floridians are embracing the World Cup

The majority of South Floridians are planning to take part in World Cup festivities next month, according to a new survey from ParkMobile.

Why it matters: Despite criticism over steep prices and multi-million-dollar government subsidies, most residents who responded to the survey say they are embracing the soccer tourney.

Zoom in: ParkMobile surveyed 1,000 people living in the Miami metro area and found that 82% plan to attend World Cup events, either by watching a match at Hard Rock Stadium (33%) or attending related festivities (49%).

The other side: About 14% do not plan to attend and another 4% plan to leave the city for the tournament.

Some of the reasons why locals are not attending World Cup events: traffic, crowds and transportation surge pricing, per the survey.
For those planning to leave altogether, respondents said they wanted to avoid big crowds and cited safety concerns, while some said they were renting out their properties.

What's next: The tournament runs June 11-July 19. Hard Rock is hosting seven matches, beginning June 15.

The FIFA Fan Festival at Bayfront Park runs June 13-July 5.
