Prior arrests can hold Floridians back. Free Miami clinic offers fresh start

Driving the news: TimeDone, a membership community of people with old criminal records, will hold a free record-sealing clinic with Florida Justice Center at St. Thomas University School of Law on Thursday.

• The clinic, part of the Bank on 100 Million Miami Hackathon, will connect attendees with record expungement, employment resources, legal aid, mental health support and more.

How it works: Someone who has been convicted or pleaded guilty to a crime can ask the state to seal their records, though certain violent crimes and other offenses are excluded.

• If your charges were dropped or dismissed, you can get your records expunged.
• TimeDone will assign attendees a service navigator to guide them through the process, which can take at least four months, a spokesperson tells Axios.

Those interested can apply online, though spots are filling up quickly.

• Thursday, 10am-2pm, at St. Thomas University School of Law, Convocation Hall.
• There is no income limit to access the services.
