In a city full of club-staurants and $20 cocktails, Miami's best food usually comes from no-frills spots like Pho Me 2 Go.
The vibes: The Vietnamese restaurant in North Miami Beach, which opened in 2016 to rave reviews, has a small dining room adorned with black-and-white family photos and old newspaper clippings.
- The staff are super friendly and treat you like guests in their home, whether you dine in or order take-out.
State of plate: My wife and I started with the pork egg rolls ($5.95 for a three-piece) and two Big Gulp-sized drinks (Minty Lemonade for me, $6.95).
- The egg rolls were perfectly balanced, juicy and crunchy. Dip it in the sweet sauce.
- For the main course, they didn't have any more of their celebrated bánh mì sandwiches, so we shared the rice vermicelli salad with pork ($13.95) and the kalbi short ribs ($16.95).
- The pork salad was fresh, savory and extra tasty with the sweet vinegar and spicy sauce it came with.
- The short ribs were tender and doused in an amazing sweet soy sauce glaze.
Final total: Delicious lunch for two? $54.81 without tip. Supporting a local small business? Priceless.
