New take on Monopoly highlights Coral Gables' landmarks, unique charm

A new twist on a classic game is highlighting the landmarks and character that define one of Miami's iconic cities.

State of play: Gables-opoly is a reimagined take on Monopoly that features more than 40 local events, departments and community organizations, plus more than 30 local businesses that supported the game's development.

The cheeky update swaps the traditional jail space for a commission meeting and the railroads for the city's trolley.

The intrigue: The limited-edition game is a collaboration between the city, the Mark A. Trowbridge Chamber Foundation, and Coral Gables-based print shop and boutique Bliss Imprints & Gifts.

It's a fundraising initiative meant to highlight the city's unique characteristics.
"It's a fun way to celebrate the city while supporting the Foundation's ongoing work in our community," Eddy Martinez, co-owner of Bliss Imprints & Gifts and creator of Gables-opoly, said in a news release.

Zoom in: The game retails for about $30.

Proceeds from the game benefit the Mark A. Trowbridge Chamber Foundation, a Coral Gables-based nonprofit that supports local initiatives serving local businesses.

What's next: The city is hosting a public launch at Giralda Live on March 6, featuring a "larger-than-life activation inspired by the board," live music, rum tastings and local vendors.
