Give Miami Day is back. Here's what to know

Beginning Saturday, the greater Miami community will show its support for more than 1,400 local nonprofits.

Why it matters: Give Miami Day is the largest fundraising event of the year for many of the organizations.

100% of the donations are unrestricted, meaning the nonprofits can allocate the funding wherever it is needed.

The big picture: This year's event comes after many local organizations have experienced funding cuts or reductions.

Earlier this year, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava restored more than $11 million in arts and cultural funding that was part of a proposed budget cut, but said the funds were short-term.

How it works: The 24-hour drive, organized by The Miami Foundation, begins at 12am on Nov. 20; early giving runs from Saturday through Nov. 19.

Those interested can search the nonprofits by mission category, populations served or budget before making a donation.
The minimum donation is $25, but donors can give as much to one or as many organizations as they like.

Meanwhile, the Foundation is hosting its first-ever Give Miami Festival on Sunday, following the 5k race that morning.

The free event (8am-1pm at 1075 Biscayne Blvd.) will feature live music, free yoga classes and an opportunity to meet with local nonprofits.
