Miami Film Festival GEMS returns with the largest lineup yet

Why it matters: This year's event, which has grown into one of the city's most anticipated attractions, features the largest lineup to date.

• The festival highlights the year's most anticipated films ahead of awards season.

What they're saying: "We have 24 countries featured as well as 10 international official submissions to the 2026 Academy Awards," Lauren Cohen, director of programming, said in a news release.

• "It is truly an astonishing year for cinema, and that's really reflected in our program."

Zoom in: The festival opens Wednesday with director Park Chan-wook's "No Other Choice," where he'll receive the Miami Film Festival's Precious Gem Master Award.

• "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery," directed by Rian Johnson, will close out the festival.

Zoom out: Other notable screenings include "Belén," "Hamnet," "Jay Kelly, "Nuremberg," "Sentimental Value" and "The Secret Agent."

• On Nov. 1, there's a special retrospective screening of "Clueless," the 1995 classic, in honor of its 30th anniversary.
• Local director Billy Corben's "Canceled: The Paula Deen Story" is also included in the lineup.

If you go: Films will be screened at Silverspot Cinema Downtown, the Koubek Center, Coral Gables Art Cinema, Bill Cosford Cinema and O Cinema Miami Beach.
