Happy III Points weekend to all who celebrate!
The big picture: This year's two-day festival, featuring more than 150 artists and 12 stages across five city blocks in the heart of Wynwood, is expected to draw more than 50,000 people.
Why it matters: The influx of people and events impacts everyone in Miami (hello, more traffic!), whether you're an attendee or not.
To help you plan, we rounded up key details for you to know ahead of Friday's opening act.
- The festival begins daily at 4pm and runs through 4am. The box office opens at 3pm.
- It's also rain or shine, but the weather seems to be on our side.
Road closures: Beginning at 9am Friday and through Sunday at 8pm, NW 6th Ave. (between NW 21st Terrace and NW 26th St) and NW 21st Terrace (westbound between NW 5th Ave. and NW 6th Ave.) will be closed, per Miami-Dade Police.
Transportation: There's no official parking for the event, though limited lots and street parking are available in the surrounding areas.
- Festival organizers are encouraging event-goers to use public transportation or rideshares. (Designated pickup and dropoff areas can be found here.)
- The county's 20, 32 and Allapatah bus lines have stops within a 15-minute walk to the grounds.
The intrigue: This year's festival also includes a full lineup of art programming and activations, including the new M.A.S. Gallery located inside the RC95 warehouse.
- The gallery, curated by Miami Art Society, features works by this year's grant winners.
State of song: Unlike other years, the lineup this year doesn't have that big-name headliner (think Justice, the electronic duo, from last year) scheduled for the Mind Melt main stage, the New Times reported.
- Instead, the lineup features a range of artists across genres and stages. (Full lineup with set times here.)
💭 Sommer's thought bubble: I LOVE Sean Paul! I may die if he sings "She Doesn't Mind," so stay tuned for Monday's newsletter.
- I also plan on catching Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, L'Impératrice, Chuwi and Barry Can't Swim.
- Do some of those sets overlap? Sure do! Let's see how many I can catch.
💭 Martin's thought bubble: I'm most excited to see Denzel Curry, the Miami rapper who reinvigorated the South Florida hip-hop scene a decade ago.
- Whether he's rapping, singing or covering Rage Against the Machine, Curry is always innovating.
- Some of my favorite songs of his are the 2015 viral hit "Ultimate" and the 2022 single "X-Wing."
- I'm also hoping to catch electro-pop legends Phantogram and my Argentine compatriots Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso.
