New app unifies South Florida's transit systems

• Tri-Rail faces a funding crisis that could put it out of business by 2027, a planned commuter train between Miami and Fort Lauderdale saw its state funding slashed by Florida lawmakers. Brightline is also being sued for its role in the planned commuter service.

Driving the news: SoFloGO streamlines user interactions with the local transit systems in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties — along with Tri-Rail — to create a "unified travel experience across county lines," according to an announcement from the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority.

How it works: The app, whose development was funded by the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, offers multimodal trip planning, real-time bus and train tracking, mobile ticketing and step-by-step directions.
