Florida has some of the highest state taxes of beer compared to the rest of the country, a new analysis found.
Why it matters: Floridians may be cracking open a couple of beers as they head into the Fourth of July weekend.
Taxes on those brewskies may be higher here compared to other states, an analysis by the Tax Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, found.
How it works: The group calculated total state taxes imposed on off-premises sales of 4.7% ABV beer in 12 oz. containers imported from outside the state.
Zoom in: Florida taxes about $0.48 per gallon — ranking 9th — behind Alabama ($0.53), Maryland ($0.60) and North Carolina ($0.62).
Zoom out: Tennessee (about $1.29 per gallon), Alaska ($1.07) and Hawai'i ($0.93) have the highest overall state taxes.
