Review: Sunny's might be my favorite restaurant in Miami

Sunny's has been called one of the best new eateries in the world, so I had to see what all the hype was about.
The big picture: Originally a pandemic pop-up, Sunny's reopened last fall with an expanded menu and permanent location just north of Little Haiti.
- The owners previously co-owned Jaguar Sun before closing it to focus on Sunny's.
- It has quickly become one of Miami's most acclaimed restaurants and is recommended by the Michelin Guide, though it hasn't earned a star yet.
State of plate: We started with the tuna tartare and wagyu carpaccio ($24 each).
- The acidity and crunch of the lime-flavored tartare pair well with the savory creaminess of the wagyu.
- The Parker House Rolls ($6 for two) — one of several carryovers from Jaguar Sun — are a must-order.
🤲 Pro tip: Bring a friend or loved one and split everything.
⭐️ Most valuable plate: The $39 hanger steak is one of the best steaks I've ever eaten.
- Cooked sous vide in a low-temperature water bath, the steak is luxuriously tender and pink all over.
- It's the cheapest steak on the menu, but "arguably the best," per the Infatuation.
🔥 Hot take: You are encouraged to order different steak sauces (we went with the $6 peppercorn sauce), but I think the meat is better by itself.
- We paired that with the russet potatoes ($14), which are cooked in chicken fat for a nice flavor boost.
For dessert, order the chocolate cake ($16), which tastes like a chocolatey tiramisu.
💸 By the numbers: An anniversary dinner for two cost me less than $200 before tip, a reasonable price for a special occasion.
🎶 The vibes: Sophisticated but laid back. Perfect for celebrations.
