Miami library to open cat-adoption lounge following renovations

The Catio! Rendering: Forbes Architects via Miami-Dade County
The South Dade Regional Library will close later this month for major renovations, including the addition of a "Catio" adoption lounge in partnership with Miami-Dade County Animal Services.
Why it matters: The South Dade library in Cutler Bay will be closed for 1.5 years beginning May 25.
What's inside: Here's what the estimated $8 million redesign will include:
- Redesigned atrium and lobby featuring multifunctional stair seating.
- A second auditorium for community events and programs.
- New study rooms and privacy pods.
- "State-of-the-art" YOUmedia Miami space for teens to create podcasts, mix music and explore other technologies.
- New U.S. Passport Services Office.
- Renovated children's room and sensory-friendly room.
- More charging ports and upgraded computers for public use.
- Renovated restrooms, upgraded Wi-Fi network and modernized elevators.
- New flooring and carpeting.
- A rooftop solar panel.
Meanwhile, the North Shore Branch Library in Miami Beach closed May 5 for a roughly four-week facility maintenance project.
- The Lemon City Branch is also closed for renovations.
