We're quickly approaching the first weekend of February.
Here's what's happening around town:
🖼️ Kick off Black History Month on Friday night with a local art show examining incarceration through art, history and dialogue.
- Art for the People presents "Breakthrough: Incarceration thru the People's Eyes" at 7pm.
- RSVP for free to see the location.
🎨 ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale is hosting an opening reception Friday night for its new exhibit about Black art.
- "Burnout and Black Artists: Emotional Sustainability in the Arts" explores the expectation in the art world that Black artists draw from their personal pain and generational trauma.
- Free with RSVP.
- Reception is Friday, 5:30-8pm. Exhibit open through March 31.
❤️ The Elixir of Love — a classic romance opera performed by the Florida Grand Opera — runs Saturday-Tuesday at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
- Tickets start at $27.
- Teatro, the restaurant inside the Arsht Center's Ziff Opera House, is selling a thematic cocktail for the occasion.
- If you miss the Miami show, you can catch it at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Feb. 13 and 15.
🧄 The 26th annual South Florida Garlic Fest will spice up Wellington on Saturday and Sunday with live music, garlic-inspired food vendors and garlicky cocktails.
- Maybe you'll try the new garlic s'more bubble waffle sandwich while you watch chef demos.
- One-day tickets are $15+. Active and retired military veterans get in free Sunday with a guest.
- Hours: 11am-9pm on Saturday, 11am-6pm Sunday.
🎊 Smorgasburg's third annual Chinese Lunar New Year celebration is Saturday and Sunday in Wynwood.
- The outdoor food market will be showcasing the flavors of China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and more.
- Hours: 12pm–10pm Saturday, 12pm-8pm Sunday.
🚗 The Motorcar Cavalcade — a luxury car show — takes place at the JW Marriott Turnberry Resort & Spa on Sunday.
- Early bird tickets start at $95.
