Review: Awash Ethiopian Restaurant brings the flavor

I had lunch at Awash Ethiopian Restaurant in Miami Gardens over the weekend.

State of plate: The New York Times called Awash one of the 25 best restaurants in Miami last year and noted that it's the only Ethiopian restaurant in Miami-Dade County.

The vibes: Lowkey and cozy.

What we ordered: We started off with the meat sambusa ($7.99), a trio of perfectly crispy beef pastries.

Then we leveled up with a three-piece protein and veggies tray served with fermented injera bread, which you use to scoop up the saucy dishes.

We paired the yebeg wot (slow-cooked lamb in berbere sauce, $21.99), with sides of alicha wot (turmeric-spiced beef, $7.99) and shiro (ground chickpeas in a garlic sauce, $6.99).

Order extra injera bread ($2) to sop up every ounce of flavor from the plate.
