Marc Anthony announces celeb-backed speed boat race at Miami Marine Stadium

Driving the news: Anthony, the owner of E1's Team Miami, announced the Nov. 7-8 race yesterday. 

• It's the first American race for E1, a ritzy international racing series that launched earlier this year. 

Who's who: Will Smith, Raphael Nadal and Tom Brady are all E1 team owners. The league is backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. 

How it works: Each team has a male and female pilot, who take turns racing around the course. 

• They drive futuristic-looking RaceBirds, which use hydrofoil wings to elevate off the water.
• Maximum speed: 57 mph.
• Team Brady won the inaugural championship last year but Anthony says Team Miami will take it this year.

What we know: The E1 Miami GP, a partnership between E1 and Anthony's Magnus company, will have general admission seating and a VIP club around the stadium.

• Organizers will hold a fan festival with live music, food and drink stands and panel discussions.

• Team Miami is also developing a local sustainability project.

What we don't know: When the tickets go on sale or how much they will cost, though Team Miami co-founder Robert Jakobi tells Axios it should be cheaper than Formula 1 races.
