Hurricanes still have path to College Football Playoff

Zoom in: Quarterback Cam Ward, who broke UM's single-season school record of 30 passing touchdowns this season, is on his way to breaking a school passing yards record that has stood for 40 years. 

• Miami receiver Xavier Restrepo broke the school record for career receiving yards and receptions.

The latest: The Hurricanes are 9-1 after losing to Georgia Tech over the weekend and Miami has to win its remaining two games to make the ACC Championship and possibly the 12-team College Football Playoff, per the Miami Herald.

• The Canes fell to No. 9 in the CFP rankings released last night.

The Ward factor: The fifth-year transfer quarterback has become one of college football's biggest stars, leading UM to its best start since 2017.

• His signature touchdown celebration, in which he covers his mouth with one hand and waves the other as if to shoo away his critics, became an internet sensation. It's been spotted at NFL and NHL games.
• Ward is a Heisman Trophy candidate and a finalist for the Maxwell Award, given to Collegiate Player of the Year. He's reportedly made over $2 million in NIL sponsorship deals, with partners like Giorgio Armani and Adidas.

• He's expected to be a first-round NFL draft pick in 2025.
• The Miami Herald's Greg Cote has said Ward is UM's best quarterback in 20 years. By no coincidence, Cote has said this may be UM's best team in decades.

What's next: UM plays Wake Forest on Nov. 23 and Syracuse on Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 30.
