Everytown for Gun Safety launches ads backing Miami-Dade school board candidate

• Voters electing Tuchman, a former teacher, to the District 7 seat could help swing the board's majority in the opposite direction.

The big picture: The digital ads are part of a six-figure paid media campaign by Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund – Florida to support what it calls "gun sense" candidates.

• Nearly three dozen volunteers with Moms Demand Action, which is part of Everytown, were elected to school boards nationally in 2023, per the organization.

What they're saying: "Gun violence [prevention] is one of my priorities. I'm honored by the endorsement," Tuchman told Axios.

• She said she hopes to flip the seat and "return the board to nonpartisan control."
• Tuchman said the school board needs to talk more about preventative measures to gun violence, like addressing mental health needs and investing in extracurricular activities.

The other side: Blanco, a guidance counselor at a private Catholic school, has advocated for more mental health services while on the board.

• Axios was unable to reach Blanco for comment on Tuesday.
