Things to do: 40th annual Miami Carnival, Kite Day, Hispanic Heritage film fest

It's been a pre-storm, anxiety-filled week. Here are some events to relax and enjoy the weekend.

While you're out and about, consider helping our northern neighbors who are beginning the rebuilding process.

The 40th-annual Miami Carnival is back to celebrate Caribbean culture with a three-day event featuring pageantry, music, food and arts and crafts.

Central Broward Park, Friday and Saturday; Miami-Dade County Fair Expo, Sunday
Friday, 4pm-11pm; Saturday, 7am-3pm; Sunday, 11am-11pm
Tickets start at $30.

Hispanic Heritage Film Festival inaugural event celebrates Hispanic culture in the form of panels, visual arts and storytelling.

Friday-Sunday, varying times and locations. $12.

Haulover Park's 32nd annual Kite Day features hundreds of kites during the two-day event. Event-goers are welcome to fly thier personal kites, too.

Saturday-Sunday, 11am-6pm. Free.

Family Fun Day at HistoryMiami Museum invites guests to explore the museum for free on the second Saturday of each month.

This weekend's theme explores Miami's Afro-Caribbean influences.
Saturday, 10:00am-5:00 pm.

ZunZún Children's Fest at the Miami Beach Bandshell, featuring Argentine musician Muis Maria Pescetti, is a Spanish-language concert for children and families.

Sunday, 3pm (doors, 2pm). Free
