Inter Miami may earn league-best record with Supporters' Shield

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF are one win away from clinching the best record in Major League Soccer and hoisting the club's second-ever trophy.

State of play: With a win tonight at Columbus, Inter Miami can win the Supporters' Shield and claim the No. 1 overall seed heading into the MLS Cup playoffs.

With three matches left, Inter leads the MLS with 65 points. (Clubs earn three points per win)
The Supporters' Shield, awarded to the season's highest-scoring club, would give Inter home-field advantage in the playoffs.

No Messi, no problem: During the 15 MLS matches that Messi missed this year – due to injury or Argentina national team play – Inter went 10-3-2.

Messi, who returned from injury last month, is still a top-10 goal scorer in the league this season despite playing at least eight fewer matches than those above him.

What we're watching: If Inter wins its next three matches, it would set a new MLS record for points in a season. (73 is the current record)
