Storms to watch

Forecasters are monitoring a tropical system they say could become a tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean Sea later this week.

• "Disturbance 1" has a medium (40%) chance of forming in the next 7 days, but it's still too early to know where it will go or how strong it will be.
• The storm could start developing in the same area that Hurricane Helene did last week, the Miami Herald reports.

What else: A tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic has a 90% chance of becoming a tropical depression this week.
