Frizz capital U.S.A: Miami ranks worst city for hair health, per study

What they found: Our humidity, wind, UV index and mineral-filled tap water are all doing a number on us.

• Miami's "hair-health score" is 81 out of 100 — tops in the nation.
• Tampa was second with 71, followed by San Antonio and Dallas.

The fine print: Researchers factored in our 18 mph average yearly wind speed, 248 muggy days a year and high levels of water hardness – or the amount of dissolved calcium and magnesium in the water, which can dry out the hair.

• The moisture in the air during humid days can break the hydrogen bonds in our hair, making it more malleable and frizzy.
