๐ Sommer here, swooping in to share some Big News: I am now a Detroit-style pizza stan.
Why it matters: Upon a recent visit to the new Emmy Squared Pizza in Coral Gables, my childhood best friend Nicky and I agreed there's something nostalgic about a thick crust, rectangular pizza.
- Don't ask us why, it just *feels* nostalgic.
The vibe: The Miracle Mile location โ South Florida's second โ is bright and inviting inside. On a nice day, I'd opt for the outdoor communal picnic tables.
- The staff was friendly and attentive. (Shoutout Gabriela!)
๐ป State of sip: While the cocktail list is quite long, featuring classics, seasonals, and pitcher options, we stuck to beers ($6-$9).
- Nicky's bottle came with a slightly frosted glass (ร la vestida de novia). Kudos.
- Plus, of the six beers on tap, four were local. Double kudos.

What we ordered: We started with the Caesar Salad ($10), which was lightly dressed and featured whole anchovies (a perfect topping).
- Next, the wings ($15). An order includes 10 wings with your choice of sauce.
- We picked sriracha crystal glaze with peanuts (and you should, too). They weren't too saucy and had a subtle kick.

๐ The 'za: We chose the Colony ($19/24) โ red sauce, Ezzo pepperoni, pickled jalapeรฑo, honey โ and the Angel ($21/26) โ truffle mushroom cream, ricotta, mushrooms. Both were delicious.
- The Colony had a decent amount of heat, but the honey offered a nice sweetness.
- The Angel was incredibly creamy. The truffle wasn't overpowering.
- The crust was thick, yet light and airy. Every bite offered a nice crunch.
Bottom line: I love thin crust pizza. But after our visit, I learned it's not an either-or situation. I'm simply expanding my pizza palette.
- We'll be back for more 'za (and to try the burger).
