NFL offers guardian caps to players. Will Dolphins wear them?

Friction point: Some players — ever mindful of their fashion choices on and off the field — don't think the bulky Guardian Caps look cool enough. Yes, really.

• Some players have also complained about their weight — the Caps add about 12.5 to 14 ounces to their helmets, per ESPN — and that they limit air circulation in the helmet.

Case in point: Dolphins defensive back Elijah Campbell told the Palm Beach Post that he won't be wearing the safety caps, despite saying it could help reduce traumatic brain injuries that lead to CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy).

• "With CTE and all the studies about it, I think it's beneficial," Campbell said. "For sure."

Yes, but: "I don't like the aesthetics of it," he said.

Stunning stat: There's been a 50% reduction in concussions among certain position players who wore Guardian Caps over two years of preseason practices, according to the NFL.

• The force of a collision could be reduced about 20% if both players wear the caps, per the league.
• The league also introduced five new hard-shelled helmet models tested to outperform previous headgear.

The other side: Indianapolis Colts tight end Kylen Granson and safety Rodney Thomas said they plan on wearing the Guardian Caps during the season.

• "At one point people thought seatbelts were f------- stupid," Granson said.
