New rules for reopened Miami spoil islands

Four spoil islands on Biscayne Bay are set to reopen tomorrow, Miami officials announced this week.

Why it matters: Osprey Island, Morningside Island, Pace Picnic Island and Willis Island have been closed since Memorial Day to thwart pollution.

State of play: The Miami Police Marine Patrol will conduct daily sweeps "to prevent boats from anchoring to trees, cite illegal vendors, prohibit styrofoam items and ensure no after-hours use," according to the city.

City staff will also host educational outreach events.
