What to know about tonight's presidential debate, where to watch in Miami

• It's the earliest debate in modern history, and the first in more than three decades that isn't being organized by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates.
• The candidates' microphones will be muted when it's not their turn to speak, something the Biden campaign pushed for in an effort to control former President Trump.

How it works: CNN announced more details about the debate, which will be hosted in Atlanta by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, with no studio audience.

• The 90-minute debate will include two commercial breaks, during which campaign staff is prohibited from interacting with their candidate.
• "Both candidates agreed to appear at a uniform podium, and their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip," CNN said.
• "While no props or pre-written notes will be allowed on the stage, candidates will be given a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water."

What they're planning: The Republican Party of Miami-Dade County and other GOP groups are hosting an official watch party and rally at the Renaissance Miami (5910 SW 8th St.). RSVP is required.

The Biden campaign, along with the Miami-Dade Democratic Party, is hosting a watch party at the Nite Owl Drive-In downtown.

• Other local party groups, including the Miami-Dade Young Democrats, are hosting events at Sports Grill Kendall, Gramps in Wynwood and the Center for Black Innovation in Overtown.
