What to know for the Plaza lighting ceremony

Zoom in: The festivities kick off this year at 6:30pm, but the actual switch flips at 7:55pm.

• That's nearly an hour later than last year.

Context: The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Cowboys in Dallas that afternoon — with their kickoff time at 3:30pm.

• That means the game won't end until around 7pm — just enough time to scoot your boot down to the Plaza, as long as they don't go into overtime.

If you go: Plaza parking garages are free — and some may be good spots to watch from. Visit KC recommends the Plaza 211 parking garage.

• The stage where members of the KC Current will flip the switch is located at Nichols Road and Pennsylvania Avenue. Fireworks will follow.
• Arrive early and dress warmly — the high that day may only be in the 40s.

Dig in: If you want to watch the Chiefs from within walking distance, places like The Granfalloon and O'Dowd's typically have the game on.

Fun fact: It takes a crew of electricians more than two months to string all the lights, starting after Labor Day.
