By the numbers: Huntsville's 2025 annexations

Huntsville's growing every which way, including geographically.

Why it matters: Big annexations usually precede big development, whether industrial, commercial, residential, or a mix.

Zoom in: With one City Council meeting remaining, the city is set to add another 724 acres by year's end.

By the numbers: So far, Huntsville has approved 15 annexations totaling 2,292 acres, the city confirmed to Axios Friday.

• Three annexations, including one for 686 acres on the eastern edge of Huntsville, were introduced at Thursday's meeting to be voted on Dec. 18.
• If approved, Huntsville's 2025 tally would come to 18 annexations totaling 3,016.67 acres.

Zoom out: That's quite a bit more than in previous years. For context, the city completed six annexations in 2024 for a total of 85.33 acres.

• In the three years prior, 106 annexations totaled 4,592.58 acres, or 1,148 per year.
