Funding plans introduced in the Senate reconciliation package for NASA funding key to specific operations at Marshall Space Flight Center were included in the budget reconciliation bill that cleared Congress July 3.
Why it's important: The early iterations of the "One Big Beautiful Bill" included cuts to NASA science spending, but the final package headed to Trump's desk includes funding for multiple programs based in Huntsville.
Other pieces of the $10-billion package include $100 million for upgrades at Marshall Space Flight Center, and $1 billion for infrastructure improvements at manned spaceflight centers, per Britt.
Zoom out: The bill also includes $20 million for Orion, and integration of Orion with SLS, and other non-NASA funding for Redstone Arsenal, according to a statement from Rep. Dale Strong following the vote Thursday.
That includes $25 billion for the Golden Dome missile defense plan, for which Strong says the arsenal "will play a significant role in supporting," and $150 billion for defense spending through 2034.
