5 quick haircut takeaways from my first of many trips to Emerson Joseph

Unfortunately for my wife, I’ve always been a budget haircut guy — until now.

This created a large range of possible outcomes. Which nobody really wants when it comes to haircuts. I had a good run at Super Cuts until they gave me a uneven bowl cut one time and my wife made me promise I would never go back.

But recently, I found my hair home at Emerson Joseph.

It’s not cheap (haircuts start at $44), but Emerson Joseph is super chill — and more importantly, they give an excellent men’s haircut. Which makes sense considering they’re largely regarded as the top haircut spot in Charlotte and thus they can recruit and retain the best staff.

I booked a “Full Service Cut” online and randomly chose Taylor as my stylist.

Here are 5 quick takeaways from my first Emerson Joseph visit.

(1) The space feels more like a whiskey bar that a men’s haircut spot.

I checked in at the front desk and then waited about two minutes for Taylor to grab me. In the meantime I sat down in a leather chair, watched SportCenter, and though about grabbing a free beer, but instead went with water.

(2) Yes, Emerson Joseph shampoos your hair and does a neck shave.

I haven’t met a dude that doesn’t love a good neck shave.

The stylist will shampoo your hair before the cut and after your cut. Which is great because nobody wants to go back to work with scratchy hair all over the place. Oh, and you also get a massage with the final shampoo.

(3) Included in Emerson Joseph’s Full Service Cut is a quick manicure and a shoe shine.

I’ve never had anybody file my nails. My hands never looked so damn good. And my loafers were in desperate need of a shine.

(4) When I get enough courage, I’m going to schedule a pedicure.

(5) The haircut was fantastic and Taylor had solid chatter.

I enjoyed talking with Taylor. I’m always worried about making awkward small talk with the person cutting my hair, but Taylor was cool and didn’t force conversation.

Over all, the experienced is designed for busy dudes who need a haircut done the right way. I appreciate that.
