When design consultant Claire Williams got asked to transform a client’s master closet into a boutique, she knew it would be a one-of-a-kind project.
Background: Williams has been designing beautiful, organized spaces in Charlotte homes for the past 4 years at California Closets in Dilworth.
The company offers custom design solutions for virtually every area in your home, including closets, pantries, home offices, mudrooms and even garages.
“No two projects are ever the same,” says Williams. And this master closet makeover was definitely unique.
The project entailed redesigning two master closets – his and hers. Williams also helped the homeowners redesign their home office. It was all part of a large renovation of the client’s Uptown condo.

- “It was as important to us to design the closets as it was to design the kitchen,” says the client, who asked to remain anonymous.
The vision: Due to a packed schedule and demanding job, the client wanted an organized space where she could find things quickly. She also wanted a space that would be as beautiful as it is useful.
“She has incredible style and taste,” says Williams about the client. “The goal was to make it feel like a boutique.”
The process: After an initial consultation, Williams visited the condo to take exact measurements of the space. California Closets is known for their proprietary 3D imaging software, which makes the design process super simple and tailored.
“Our goal is to make the space work for you,” she says. “If you have 150 shoes, we can make sure each shoe has a place. Whatever will make your routine the easiest.”
The end result: Williams completely transformed both closets into gorgeous and functional spaces. The main master closet literally looks like a boutique with glass doors to highlight the client’s favorite designer pieces, custom shoe shelving and cubbies to display handbags and other accessories.
“I can honestly say it’s changed my life,” says the client. “I’m so much more organized. I can get dressed to go somewhere in 5 minutes.”
Here’s what you’ll find in the closet:
- Linen and pietra finishes
- Gold accents include the gold hardware, hanging poles, aluminum framed doors
- Everstyle jewelry drawers
- Valet rod, belt rack and scarf racks
- Illuminated glass shelves in gold
- Lighting throughout to create the desired boutique look
California Closets also transformed the second master closet and home office.
