Northwood Office continues to turn Ballantyne into a great place to live, work and play.
The background: Northwood Office is the developer behind Ballantyne Reimagined, a multi-year plan to transform the south Charlotte neighborhood into a more vibrant, urban and walkable community.
- The goal, according to Northwood Office, is to “make the heart of Ballantyne into more of a hub for the community and region.”
The big picture: 2020 and 2021 were critical years for progress towards Northwood’s goals for Ballantyne, despite COVID-related challenges along the way.
Here are five things that make Ballantyne the place to be right now.
(1) Overlook office building
A lot has changed since Northwood Office announced its plans for Overlook in 2019 (hello, working from home).

Okay, but: Even before the pandemic, the goal was to create a high-performance, healthy office building with an emphasis on touchless technology and outdoor spaces.
- Now complete, Overlook features 302,500-square-feet of Class A office space, with a rooftop terrace and ground floor amenities.
(2) Towerview Ballantyne
In partnership with Northwood Ravin, Ballantyne also has its first high-rise apartment community.

- Towerview Ballantyne has 212 luxury apartment homes and began preleasing in May.
Amenities include:
- A rooftop lounge.
- Large dog run.
- Salt water pool with private cabanas and fire pit.
- Health club.
- On-site concierge.
(3) Ballantyne’s Backyard
Ballantyne’s Backyard is a new community park that opened in May. The 100+ acres of land used to be a golf course but now boasts fishing ponds, walking trails, a giant sandbox, a bee apiary and more.

Looking ahead: Northwood is building an amphitheater and Stream Park expected to open next year.
(4) Events that give back
Markets at 11 is an open-air market series featuring local small businesses in Ballantyne’s Backyard that drew thousands of attendees each month in 2021.

- Northwood Office also hosted an outdoor concert series, movie nights and weekly fitness classes.
Events throughout the year have supported local organizations like Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and Classroom Central.
(5) World-class entertainment
In the fall, Ballantyne’s Backyard was taken back to prehistoric times with 50 true-to-life dinosaurs in a traveling exhibit.

- Van Gogh also made an appearance with an Immersive Van Gogh hot air balloon event.
In 2022, Northwood Office plans to bring even more events and experiences to Ballantyne.
