An inside look at ENT care with one of Charlotte’s top doctors

A message from: Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates

When allergies, sinus issues, severe congestion or ear infections strike, an otolaryngologist, also known as an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, can help you get back to feeling your best.
What you need to know: Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates (CEENTA) has 40 otolaryngologists across their 18 locations throughout North and South Carolina who are highly experienced in diagnosing and treating both common and complicated ENT issues.
Dr. Christopher Tebbit is part of CEENTA's network of trusted otolaryngologists and has worked for the organization since 2009. This year, he was named one of Charlotte's top doctors by Charlotte Magazine for the third year in a row.
We asked Dr. Tebbit to share more about himself, his clinical interests and his areas of expertise.
Why did you choose this specialty?
"Otolaryngology has an enticing mix of interesting and complex anatomy coupled with providing care for patients of all ages.
- Additionally, as an amateur musician, I enjoy caring for problems with speech and voice."
What conditions do you typically treat?
"I handle a range of concerns including tonsil and adenoid problems, sinus and nasal issues, ear and hearing conditions, and challenges with swallowing and voice."
- Take note: As an ENT doctor, Dr. Tebbit also provides allergy testing and treatment for patients.
Can you tell us more about treating ear disorders?
The background: According to CEENTA, treating ear disorders is one of the unique domains of otolaryngology. Ear infections are among the most common ear disorders, especially for children.
- Okay, but: While many ear infections can be resolved on their own or with antibiotics, chronic ear infections require additional care by an ENT specialist as they can cause hearing problems and lead to behavior or speech issues.
An expert take: "I often see recurrent ear infections in pediatric patients, which are typically treated surgically with ear tubes when appropriate. This is a common issue, with over 500,000 surgeries occurring each year in the U.S."
What brought you to Charlotte?
"In 2009, I came to Charlotte to start my employment with CEENTA after my residency."
- Worth a mention: Dr. Tebbit went to undergraduate school at UNC Chapel Hill and completed medical school, fellowship, and residency at Duke University.
What do you like to do in your free time?
"Outside of work, I play piano as a gigging musician. I also enjoy tennis, golf, chess, cooking and traveling."
The takeaway: CEENTA is the region's premier ear, nose, and throat care provider for adult and pediatric patients. Schedule an appointment with one of CEENTA's ENT specialists today.
