New rail crossing opens by South End Publix

After months of construction detours, a new pedestrian rail crossing opened Monday in South End between Publix and the Cortland apartments.
Why it matters: This is part of a much bigger, $30 million light rail station project — one goal of which was to stop people from jumping the fence and illegally crossing the tracks.
- But it will also add a station to an area that's seen a boom in development and people ever since the Blue Line originally opened in 2007.
What's next: Expect more construction in the area through 2028.
