Carbon Performance, a massive 45,000-square-foot fitness and recovery center, recently opened in Lower South End.
Why it matters: The Tennessee-born fitness company is one of the largest and most amenity-packed gyms in the Charlotte area — but much of what sets Carbon apart from a traditional gym is reserved for its higher membership tiers.
How it works: Carbon offers four membership tiers, which all come with a $150 enrollment fee and $50 annual fee. Memberships are billed every two weeks rather than monthly.
Here's what your money gets you depending on the plan you choose. Prices are from Carbon’s website as of Aug. 19, 2026.
- Performance: $59.99 every two weeks, or about $130/month. Includes the main gym, standard group classes, one Element 6 class, a fitness consultation and locker room dry sauna.
- Elite: $109.99 every two weeks, or about $238/month. Adds the women's-only workout area, Elite co-working lounge, four guest passes and recovery amenities like cold plunges, infrared saunas, Theraguns and Normatec boots.
- Edge: $137.99 every two weeks, or about $299/month. Adds the EDGE training room, unlimited HYROX and Element 6 classes and run classes.
- Platinum: $149.99 every two weeks, or about $325/month. Adds reformer Pilates.
What to expect: Carbon's bread and butter is its equipment lineup, with more than 220 pieces of equipment, including more than 175 strength machines.
- Edge and Platinum members get unlimited HYROX and Element 6 classes.
- Reformer Pilates is reserved for Platinum members. When classes aren't in session, members with access can use the studio for digital reformer workouts.
- Carbon also has a shake bar with protein shakes and pre-workout, a retail shop and locker rooms with dry saunas.
Stop by: Carbon Performance is at 3325 S. Tryon St., by State of Confusion.
