I left class with a face about as red as these lights. Photo: McKenzie Rankin/Axios
McKenzie here, back with another edition of McKenzie's Moves, where I try fitness classes and wellness services around town.
This time, I finally got under the infamous red lights at Barry's in South End.
Catch up quick: Barry's started in West Hollywood in 1998 and credits itself with helping kick off the boutique fitness boom by bringing HIIT into a group setting.
After years of hearing how hard it is, I had to see for myself.
What to expect: 50 minutes alternating between treadmill intervals and strength training. Instructors call out speeds and weights, but you can adjust.
Think sprints, rows, presses, squats and abs — all to a loud EDM playlist.
I took Matthew's total body Run x Lift class. Yes, I survived. And yes, I was drenched.
If you go: A drop-in is $30; 30 classes/month is $265.
