A new cocktail lounge called No Proof opens in South End on Saturday, June 20.
Why it matters: Owner AJ Jones designed No Proof to cater to different kinds of nights out, with one side built for a high-energy crowd and the other for a more relaxed evening.
What they're saying: Jones hopes the concept brings the kind of nightlife variety he has seen in larger cities to Charlotte.
- "In bigger cities — D.C., Miami, New York — you can find the high-energy party and the more laid-back cocktail spot often in the same neighborhood," Jones said. "With No Proof, we're trying to bring both of those vibes under one roof in Charlotte and invite everybody into that experience."
What to expect: The cocktail menu features about six drinks that play on the No Proof theme, including names like Burn After Reading and Smoke and Mirrors.
- There's also The Fifth Amendment, a bartender's-choice drink where they will create a custom cocktail based on your preferred liquor.

The vibe: The 4,294-square-foot space is split into two sections, each with its own bar. One side caters to a higher-energy crowd, while the other offers a darker, speakeasy-inspired setting with semi-private seating.
- The design mixes Roman-style statues, gallery-style artwork, pop art and graffiti — a nod to No Proof's playful take on something traditionally serious.
- Local and regional DJs will play a wide range of music throughout the week.
- "Our private lounge areas are intentionally not walled-off VIP rooms," Jones said. "They're semi-private but still visually connected. You want to be able to present some level of exclusivity without completely removing yourself."
Stop by: Find No Proof at 201 W Worthington Ave.. It's open 5pm-2am Tuesday through Friday and 2pm-2am Saturday and Sunday. Closed Mondays.
