Popular Kindred team is bringing a new steakhouse to Mooresville

Restaurateurs Katy and Joe Kindred will open a new restaurant called Deepwell in Mooresville this fall.
Why it matters: The Kindreds are behind some of the area's most beloved restaurants, including their namesake Kindred in Davidson.
What to expect: Deepwell will open in a historic building on Main Street in downtown Mooresville at 185 N. Main St. The New Orleans-style steakhouse will include indoor and outdoor seating, plus a 25-seat private dining room. It will be about 4,000 square feet, with a roughly 1,500-square-foot patio.
- The menu will include dry-aged steak and chops, plus charcuterie.
- There will be an indoor-outdoor bar serving local beer, plus nods to New Orleans with Sazerac and French 75. The dining room will include the restaurant's wine collection, plus you'll be able to see into their glass enclosed dry-aging and curing room.
- Craig Deihl, the Kindred's current corporate chef, will serve as Deepwell's executive chef and co-owner.
What we're watching: Kindred is temporarily closed after a small fire last month.
- It will likely reopen around the same time Deepwell opens its doors, Katy said in an Instagram post, making it a busy fall for their team.
Context: Kindred opened in 2015. The couple added Hello, Sailor in 2017 and Albertine in 2024.
- They now have several Milkbread locations after opening their first in 2022.
- As for the Kindreds themselves, Joe was born and raised in Charlotte. A James Beard Award semifinalist, he was a chef at Rooster's and Katy was the general manager at Good Food on Montford before they began opening their own restaurants. Katy spearheads the design.
