Gas prices are going to hurt this Memorial Day weekend.
Mecklenburg County fuel prices now stand at $4.253 on average, per AAA.
Pro tip: If you're beach-bound, you may be better off pulling off the highway to fill up in a rural county. Scotland County, home of Laurinburg, for example, is averaging $4.17.
Zoom out: North Carolina's average gas price has climbed from $3.81 to $4.19 in the last month, according to AAA.
Nationally, fuel prices are hovering at $4.52, up from $3.18 a year ago.
