We tried the "machete" guisados ($12.99), elote preparado ($7.99), tacos ($3.25 each), and mini pancakes ($9.99). Photo: Laura Barrero/Axios
Sabores de Oaxaca is now open on Central Avenue.
Why it matters: The new Mexican restaurant is from the family behind Tacos El Nevado, one of Charlotte's best and most authentic Mexican restaurants.
The vibe: Charlotte's appetite for regional Mexican cuisine was on full display opening weekend, with a steady line out the door Saturday.
The small fast-casual spot at 3654 Central Ave. is better suited for takeout, but there are a handful of seats inside.
Dig in: The family tells Axios that recipes remain rooted in generations-old cooking traditions from Oaxaca.
💭 My thought bubble: Everything we tried delivered deeply traditional Oaxacan flavors that are difficult to find in Charlotte. It's a great addition to the east side.
