"Caravaggio | Revolution: Baroque Masterpieces from the Roberto Longhi Foundation" opens this weekend at the Mint Museum Uptown.
Why it matters: Italian painterMichelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio helped cultivate the Baroque style through his use of shadow, light, realism and vivid intensity.
What to expect: Caravaggio's painting "Boy bitten by a lizard" anchors the exhibit. There are also more than 30 paintings by other artists influenced by his work.
You'll also explore Caravaggio's influence on modern storytelling through film clips, photographs and commentary from renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese, artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien, plus photographer and music video director David LaChapelle.
