Mecklenburg County leaders seek input on $9.6M Bryant Park facelift

A historic park in west Charlotte is about to get a major makeover.
Why it matters: Bryant Park occupies 15 acres in a rapidly developing part of town. Mecklenburg County leaders are seeking input through the end of April on upgrades to the park. Submit your input here.
Context: The 15-acre park is a local historic landmark, with parts of it dating back to the 1930s. It is near Pinky's Westside Grill off Morehead Street.
By the numbers: County leaders allocated $9.6 million for the project's design and construction budget in 2024.
What to expect: Park improvements will see upgrades to the existing baseball and soccer fields, as well as feature new amenities, including:
- Walking paths and trails through the woods
- Skate park
- Stormwater improvements
- Roughly 28 parking spaces
- Greenway connectors and a greenway bridge
- Neighborhood connectors
- Space for food trucks
- Play space (the exact style is TBD)
- Pavilions
Zoom in: There are certain elements, like the skate park, that county officials already know they intend to incorporate in the park, Bert Lynn, capital planning division director for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, told Axios in a December interview.
- Now, Park and Rec is using input from initial community feedback in November and new community input to inform the park's design.
What's next: Construction is expected to begin in summer 2027 and be completed by 2028.
